He's an elite genius

Is anyone else tired of people/media/etc over-using certain "catch-words"? Well I am. How many times do we have to be subjected to overhearing conversations like, "Boy, it's amazing, Bob Dylan is a genius." Is he really? Seriously is Bob Dylan really a genuis? Now granted, everyone has a different opinion about him and everyone else out there but a genius? Mozart was a genius....I don't know too many people that would argue that. Einstein, Oppenheimer, Franklin, Edison were pretty damn genius too. No I am not underscoring any women or minorities out there because there are plenty examples of genius representing them as well. These are just a few names off the top of my head. How many articles do I have to skip through in the entertainment center of the papers mentioning, "...the genius of Neil Simon..." Let's stop using the word genius and start using the word talent. Although you can still make a case against Bob Dylan. Another one that chaps my ass is "elite". "In today's news, the army sent in the elite 82nd Airborne Division...." Let me clue some folks in....the 82nd Airborne Division is not elite. They are a great unit who have a proud history and are ready to deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours to conduct contingency operations. Yes they jump out of aircraft. They aren't elite. Once you leave the aircraft...believe it or not.....gravity takes care of everything else. If you don't want to leave the aircraft or freeze up in the door, the jumpmaster's boot in your ass takes care of that. When I was in the army I was in the 1st Armored Division....another good unit with a proud history but we certainly were not elite. SFOD-D (or Delta force) and U.S. Navy SEALs....these folks are elite. The requirements are so extensive and difficult that very few are chosen. This may be a surporise to some folks but any Joe Schmoe off the street can enlist and volunteer for the 82nd Airborne Division. I am a realist though....I know that words like these are used more for emphasis or to sell more newspapers, or for the news to keep you tuned in while they go to commercial. But seriously, too many people eat this stuff up when they hear it. Then they repeat it and sound so ignorant!
